What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabis plants produce special chemicals called cannabinoid acids. Cannabis plants do not directly create cannabinoids like THC or CBD. Instead, they produce these cannabinoid acids which, when heated, go through a process called decarboxylation to produce cannabinoids. Cannabinoids from the cannabis plant are similar to the endocannabinoids that our own bodies produce.

What is the human endocannabinoid system?
What are CB1 & CB2 receptors?

01
ENDOCANNABINIOD SYSTEM
-
The human body naturally produces endocannabinoids. The term “endo” refers to “within,” as in within the body.
-
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system in the body that helps regulate and balance key bodily functions.
-
Within our endocannabinoid system, there are two receptors {CB-1 and CB-2}.
-
CB-1 receptors live primarily in our brain and central nervous system, while CB-2 receptors are found throughout the entire body, including the immune system.
-
These receptors act as landing pads for both endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids (the kind that come from plants, like cannabis). When either chemical connects with a receptor, a reaction begins that breaks down the cannabinoids. As they break down, they cause effects we associate with cannabis, whether it be a psychoactive high, euphoria, pain relief, etc.
-
Each type of cannabinoid produces its own unique effect, and these can change based on whether the chemical is connected with a CB-1 receptor or a CB-2 receptor.
02
PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF CANNABIS
-
What are CB-1 and CB-2 receptors?
-
They are natural neuroreceptors every human being is born with.
-
The CB-1 and CB-2 receptors are the primary component of the endocannabinoid system; they process the THC you ingest.
-
The CB-1 receptors directly impact levels of endorphins like dopamine.
-
The CB-2 receptors modulate levels of pain and inflammation.
-
-
In simple words, CB-1 receptors get you high and CB-2 receptors reduce pain.
-
If intoxication is what you want out of your cannabis experience, use cannabinoids that target the CB-1 receptors and if you want to treat pain or inflammation use cannabinoids that target the CB-2 receptors.

Tolerance break idea... the best way to repair your cannabinoid receptors is to stop using cannabinoids for a short time. It takes about 4 weeks for your brain's CB-1 receptors to return back to their original state.

Let's Explore Terpenes
What is your favorite flavor? Did you know that terpenes are responsible for the flavors you experience with cannabis? These aromatic molecules create the scent and flavor but they also deliver their own benefits and effects. The blend of cannabinoids, terpenes and other natural compounds found in the plant create what is known as, "the entourage effect".

Terpenes: Cannabis terpenes are naturally occurring oils found in the ‘Trichomes’ of the female cannabis plant. Trichomes are small, translucent hair-like structures that cover the cannabis plant.
